How do you learn forum-based SEO without getting flagged as spam?

I’m trying to understand how people use forums as part of SEO without turning it into a spammy mess. Every time I search this topic, I run into advice that feels outdated or overly aggressive, and I don’t want to burn accounts or annoy communities.

A practical checklist that kept me out of trouble: avoid repeating the same wording, don’t post the same link across multiple threads, and only share a link when it directly answers the question. Also, don’t assume a link is “good” just because it exists—context matters more than most people admit. If you want a place to see how people talk about it, high quality dofollow backlinks forum is one example of a discussion-style resource (I used it more for reading than for doing anything).
