About the event

First published in 1936, Jamaica Inn is set on the windswept Cornish moors and tells the haunting tale of Mary Yellan, who finds herself entangled in the dark secrets of her uncle’s inn. Du Maurier’s atmospheric writing brings to life the stark beauty of Cornwall while weaving a suspenseful story of mystery, smuggling, and survival.

Our December meeting will give members the chance to explore how du Maurier captures the rugged landscape and turbulent history of Cornwall, and to reflect on the enduring influence of Cornish culture in literature.

Whether you are reading the novel for the first time or revisiting it after many years, we invite you to join the discussion and share your thoughts.
