Greetings from Kernow

Hello all,

Greetings from Kernow, where I sit in our apartment in Falmouth looking out over a very stormy and windy Falmouth Bay.

I'm curious to find out if there any Uglows, Joliffes, Orchards or Popes on here?

Best wishes,

Simon

Stormy weather aside, I'm envious here, looking out over the rolling hills of chilly Sussex County, New Jersey. I have a Pope on my family tree—Hannah (b. circa 1639), who married a grandson of Mayflower passenger Richard Warren. I suspect it would take weeks of research to uncover our connection, but I imagine it exists somewhere! I checked a webcam in Falmouth this morning and the weather still looks unfriendly, but enjoy your stay! https://www.falmouthharbour.co.uk/maritime-and-leisure/webcam/

Hello from California!

Hi! I am a retired teacher, originally from Wisconsin, but living in California since the 1980s. Like most American Baby Boomers, I have a lot of ancestors besides the Cornish ones. My dad's paternal line came from Gwennap (Lean/Trelease), Camborne (Bennetts - however they moved to Mary Tavy in Devon), and Breage (James, Rodda). They emigrated to Mineral Point, WI and then northern Michigan in the mid-1800s, and my paternal grandfather was born in Osceola MI in 1897. My 2nd great grandfather was a Justice of the Peace - William Lean (1821/1819 to 1884). He and his wife Jane (Bennetts) had 18 children (!) and my great grandfather was the 18th! My late father was a member of the local Cornish society in Wisconsin for many years, and I grew up eating pasties and saffron buns; always proud of the Cornish side of my heritage. I also do genealogical research…

Ann, where in California do you reside? I just left LA to move to Idaho, but I understand I have a whole group of distant cousins in Grass Valley, the Berrymans.

I am forced to miss the Gathering in Calumet. Very disappointing since that is where my grandfather, Peter Husband Berriman, emigrated to and raised his family. My father and grandfather are buried outside of town at Lakeview Cemetary.

Richards family

Any Richards or Harry's from Germoe or Breage. Would love to connect with distant cousins.

Also can someone recommend good Cornwall Music CD's. Would like to add some traditional music to my life.
