Hi! I am a retired teacher, originally from Wisconsin, but living in California since the 1980s. Like most American Baby Boomers, I have a lot of ancestors besides the Cornish ones. My dad's paternal line came from Gwennap (Lean/Trelease), Camborne (Bennetts - however they moved to Mary Tavy in Devon), and Breage (James, Rodda). They emigrated to Mineral Point, WI and then northern Michigan in the mid-1800s, and my paternal grandfather was born in Osceola MI in 1897. My 2nd great grandfather was a Justice of the Peace - William Lean (1821/1819 to 1884). He and his wife Jane (Bennetts) had 18 children (!) and my great grandfather was the 18th! My late father was a member of the local Cornish society in Wisconsin for many years, and I grew up eating pasties and saffron buns; always proud of the Cornish side of my heritage. I also do genealogical research…
Any Richards or Harry's from Germoe or Breage. Would love to connect with distant cousins.
Also can someone recommend good Cornwall Music CD's. Would like to add some traditional music to my life.
I'm a longtime historical researcher in Boulder County, Colorado, with an interest in mining history, especially involving Cornish miners. My husband and I visited Cornwall several years ago and would love to go back. Currently, I'm working with others to raise awareness about a small, neglected mountain cemetery near the former mining community of Caribou, at 10,000 feet in Boulder County. Our goal is to bring dignity and respect to the burials that include miners and their families –– many of whom immigrated to the community from Cornwall to mine silver in the 1870s and 1880s. We could use your help... see cariboucemetery.com.
Attached are two photos of the grave site of Margaret Perkins. The first is the way it looks now. The fence is still there, but, sadly, the gravestone and ALL of the other gravestones are now gone. The second photo is from the 1950s and shows the…

It's been several months since I posted, but the "Friends of Caribou Cemetery" in Boulder County, Colorado, are moving forward in our preservation of the Caribou Cemetery. As previously mentioned, this was a silver mining town at 10,000 feet, with much of its population from Cornwall. Here's info on our recent "work day," https://www.themtnear.com/articles/cleaning-up-and-preserving-the-caribou-cemetery/ For more info on the cemetery, see http://cariboucemetery.com
Ann, where in California do you reside? I just left LA to move to Idaho, but I understand I have a whole group of distant cousins in Grass Valley, the Berrymans.
I am forced to miss the Gathering in Calumet. Very disappointing since that is where my grandfather, Peter Husband Berriman, emigrated to and raised his family. My father and grandfather are buried outside of town at Lakeview Cemetary.
