Introduction
The Board of the Cornish American Heritage Society is proud to announce the new guidelines and criteria for student participation in the Steven R. Curnow Memorial Fund Competition.
The Competition has undergone extensive reworking of the rules and regulations for participation by a dedicated group headed by Jean Ellis, a retired educator. CAHS is grateful for the work and dedication that has gone into this task, and indeed for the initial competition guidelines begun in 1999.
The new program, titled the Steven R. Curnow Competition, has broadened the horizons for those students who wish to participate in a number of ways:
- By increasing the possibilities for topics to be used ~ see letter to school principal
- By increasing the age span for students who wish to participate ~ for students age 19 and under who have not completed requirements for graduation.
- By offering a sheet of suggestions to give guidance to the student
- By providing a rubric that the student and various judges can evaluate the submissions ~ providing an equal playing field for all entries
- By increasing the amount of the various awards ~ see brochure
- By following the guideline requirements for student projects that is in line with the Standards from the NCTE and NCSS
Please review the materials and if no particular young person comes to mind, at present, perhaps there will be a candidate in the future who will wish to be involved in this event. This competition can only be a success if our societies and we take the time or make the effort to be involved. Remember, each individual member of CAHS is key to making this competition and the subsequent award a success.
After this initial mailing to all members and friends of CAHS, copies will be available in the form of a CD, or paper, which can be obtained from the 1st. VP for Education ~ Albert Jenkin, Carwinnion Cottage, 638 King Street, Pottstown, PA 19464-5743.
